Dominican’s North Pacific humpback whales travel 2,000 to 4,000 miles journey from North pole (Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and North America) to the Carribean every year during their annual Winter migration.

The first established whale observation was in 1985 from the town of Santa Barbara de Samaná. Around 5000 – 6000 humpback whales visit Samaná bay between mid-December and late March each year to mate, give birth, and nurse their young.
